Music, fireworks, activities and a busy cavalcade attracted more than 20,000 islanders and visitors to the festivities, which marked 70 years since the end of the Occupation.
Culture and Leisure Minister Mike O'Hara said the day had gone even better than expected, helped along by good weather.
'It was absolutely packed,' he said.
'On the whole it was a total success.'
He added that he would like to hear feedback so the department can make sure the next celebrations are just as successful.
