Lady Taverners' Wimbledon lunch to benefit Le Murier
LADIES toasted good times, friendships and a masterclass in tennis when they watched the women's Wimbledon final while raising money for charity.
The annual Lady Taverners' Wimbledon lunch saw 140 members and guests get dressed up in their best outfits, to witness Serena Williams beat Garbine Muguruza and claim the 'Serena Slam'.
While many of the ladies had backed Serena to win another title, others believed the underdog Garbine could achieve what Heather Watson had come so close to doing, by beating the now 21-time Grand Slam champion.
Lady Taverners' chairwoman Denice Prestidge was among those who had been rooting for the Spanish player to pull out a surprise, but said it was a great afternoon for everyone.
'It is a lovely event,' she said. 'It is a nice chance for the ladies to dress up, watch a bit of Wimbledon and have a stunning afternoon tea.'
