Earlier this month police announced that there was no evidence of criminality from the investigation, sparked by the death of patients.

Policy and Finance Committee chairman Neil Harvey said an inquiry was now required to restore Alderney residents' confidence in HSSD.

He said there was currently 'considerable disquiet' about the decision by HSSD to involve the police – the first time in at least the last five years that the department has handed an inquiry about a clinician to the force.
