THE former Warry's Bakery is to make way for 20 partial ownership homes after a £2m. bid from the Guernsey Housing Association was accepted.

The GHA made the purchase in partnership with the Housing Department and the houses could be built by the autumn of 2017.

The bakery was shut by Sandpiper CI in 2013 due to increases in production costs.

Phil Roussel, GHA's development manager, said the association had been scouting around for potential sites and it knew Warry's already had the green light from planners, with outline planning consent granted.
