Geoff the otter caught after five weeks on the run

GEOFF the otter, who was on the run for five weeks after escaping from Durrell Wildlife Park in Jersey, has been caught – but he is not out of the woods yet.

The south-east Asian short-clawed otter was trapped by Durrell staff on Monday in St Catherine's Woods where he has been living since mid-December.

The escapee has now been taken to a quarantine unit where he will stay for 30 days to ensure he does not pass any disease on to other animals at the park.

And it seems he was caught just in time, as Durrell staff believed he may not have survived the cold weather forecast for this week.
