The grey seal was brought to the shelter chronically underweight in January and GSPCA staff feared she might not survive.

But since then she has gone from strength to strength.

GSPCA animal collection officer – and Bonnie's main carer – Geoff George said she had put on enough weight that it was decided she was well enough to have her first trip outside since her rescued.

'It's been over a month since we rescued Bonnie the grey seal pup and she has been doing better than we could have hoped,' he said.

'With her putting weight on every day and her gaining strength we decided today to let her have her first dip in one of our pools.

'We took a video and, although a little unsure at first, Bonnie soon got the hang of getting her flippers wet.'
