Firearm report sees armed police called in

ARMED police were sent to Alderney yesterday after reports of a gun being involved in an incident inside a family home.

According to local reports it involved a man and his mother.

The police received a 999 call at about 1.30pm to a bungalow in a quiet clos off Valongis, with reports that one of the occupants had a firearm.

Alderney Police officers sealed off the house and instructed people living nearby to stay at home until firearms officers arrived.

An undisclosed number of them arrived in Alderney on board the Leopardess.

The man eventually came out voluntarily.

A spokesman for Guernsey Police said: 'A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident at a property near Rue de Longis in Alderney. It was alleged the man was also in possession of a firearm.

'Alderney-based officers secured the nearby area while authorised firearms officers were deployed. Upon their arrival, a containment area was established around the property and the man came out voluntarily after being engaged by officers. The incident was resolved with the man's arrest at 3.50pm.'
