Gillian Lenfestey, Dame du Fief le Comte – the owner of the land on which the stalls are placed – said the ancient court had received complaints about the state of the stalls, and, following consultation with the Environment Department, found out it could do something about it.

'In effect, it is private land. I spoke to the Environment Department, and someone else quite au fait with the law, and they said it does count as development, which is quite interesting. These ones are actually selling everything but vegetables and are just an eyesore.'
