Roads closed as storm hits

WEST coast roads were flooded this morning as strong winds coupled with high tides battered the island.

With the tide reaching 9.7 metres at 6.42am, and gusts reaching around 51mph, the majority of the west coast was impassable early this morning.

The emergency services have warned motorists to take care when travelling along the west coast.

Areas around Vazon and Cobo have experienced localised flooding, while flood defence barriers were installed at Perelle.

The barriers, put in place to protect properties in the area, meant the road between Rue du Perelle and Gele Road at Vazon was closed.

The barriers will remain in place until at least midday.

Traffic is being diverted through La Grande Rue, Rue du Dos D'Ane and Gele Road in both directions.

The poor weather conditions and localised flooding have also disrupted bus services.
