Pride of Guernsey: An 'angel in every sense of the word'
A WIFE and mother who has spent more than 15 years caring for her husband and others is an 'angel in every sense of the word', according to her daughter-in-law.
Rose Loaring, 78, has been nominated by Valerie Loaring for the Carer of the Year Award, sponsored by Specsavers.
Fifteen years ago Mrs Loaring's husband, Richard, was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis – a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease, characterised by varying degrees of weakness of the skeletal muscles of the body.
She has been caring for him ever since but yet still finds time to help another lady on Tuesdays.
Mrs Loaring also visits her son, who is paralysed from the chest down, at the Fougere Ward at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital regularly.
Her daughter in law said: 'My mother-in-law looks after her husband and there is nothing she will not do for him,' she said.
'She is a very selfless lady, giving much of her time to help any of her family whenever possible.
'This lady is an angel in every sense of the word.'
The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
