Pride of Guernsey: 'Always there to support and comfort me'
WITHOUT oncology nurse Sue Freestone, Sharon Denning said, she would not have made it through chemotherapy.
For that reason, the 48-year-old has nominated Mrs Freestone for our Angel of the Year Award, sponsored by Ravenscroft.
Mrs Denning had to have chemotherapy in 2014 and is still receiving some treatment on the cancer ward.
She said Mrs Freestone had been there for her from day one.
'Sue nursed me through this awful treatment,' she said.
'She saw me have really bad days and was always there to support and comfort me and most importantly listen to my fears.
'She never left my side until she knew I was happy.'
Mrs Denning said all the nurses on the oncology ward were fantastic but Mrs Freestone was her 'angel'.
'Without her I couldn't have made it through chemo – she saved my life and gave my daughter her mum back.
'She is definitely one in a million.'
Mrs Freestone has been nursing for 42 years, 16 years of which have been in oncology.
Previously working as a district nurse, ward sister and a midwife, she has treated and helped thousands of patients.
The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
