Pride of Guernsey: 'Puts everyone before himself'
A 'SPECIAL and understanding' father who devotes himself to his family is in the running for the Parent/s of the Year Award.
Matthew Birtwistle was nominated for The Christies Group-sponsored accolade by his 15-year-old twin girls Emily and Charley, who said their dad spent all of his time and effort on them.
Emily said he was an understanding parent with whom she had a fantastic bond.
'He is so special to me and puts himself out for me with school and supporting me, to make sure I have everything I need.
'Even if he is upset he will always stay positive and strong.'
Charley said her dad had been through a lot lately but still managed to stay strong and brave.
'He puts everyone before himself, even my friends when they come around. He is there for anyone even if he barely knows them – if you need help, he's there,' she said.
Emily's friend, Deon-Leigh Cotterill, also nominated Matthew because she too felt he deserved the award.
'He is a loving father to both children, he is kind and caring and devotes as much time as he possibly can to ensure they get the best out of life.
'He's full of life and love towards his children, which is why I think he should get the award.'
