The couple, both 43, were nominated for The Channel Islands Co-operative Society-sponsored Grandparent/s of the Year award by Cindy's sister, Chantelle Burton, who felt they deserved recognition for what they did.

They are grandparents to five – including two youngsters they have brought up from birth.

'Cindy gave up her job to do so and both she and Pete selflessly struggle, but they wouldn't have it any other way.

'They have sacrificed all hobbies and holidays devoting their endless love and time to them all.

'I know that this couple need recognition for the great work that they have devoted to their grandkids.'
