HERM PRIMARY SCHOOL held a cake sale to raise money for Syrian refugees living in a camp in Greece.

After researching the current situation in Syria and the plight of the refugees in Europe, the children decided they would like to help.

They have done work on refugees in general, past and present, following on from their Victor Hugo studies, even including the story of Moses.

They talked about the difference between refugees and migrants and discovered that most of their families are migrants on Herm.

The children read about the current refugee crisis and how the people are living in basic conditions without many simple things.

Since all the school mums happen to be excellent bakers, the children decided that a cake sale would be a good fundraising option. There was only a few days' notice, but the mums came up with a fabulous selection of cakes.
