Pride of Guernsey: 'Truly community minded'

LISA TEMPEST is a shining example of someone who puts the community at the forefront.

She is the manager at St Saviour's Community Centre and a parent representative at La Houguette Primary School.

Rosie Allsopp proposed Mrs Tempest for the OCS-sponsored Parish Champion of the Year Award. 'Everything Lisa does has the community in mind, and, to top it all, she does it with a smile on her face and with a kind word for everyone,' she said.

While it is her job to serve the local community, Mrs Tempest's efforts go far beyond what she is paid for.

She recently put endless hours into organising a dance event to raise money for St Saviour's Community Centre. The West Goes Strictement took place at St Pierre Park Hotel.

She persuaded a dozen people from the local community to pair up with 'professional' dancers to learn to dance and perform at a gala ball for more than 250 people which raised more than £7,000. The dancers also 'flash mobbed' a La Houguette Primary School assembly to perform for the children.

'Lisa, in my opinion, is a true parish champion and a shining example of someone who is truly community-minded,' said Mrs Allsopp.
