Mrs Le Roux has worked for the company for six years, having previously done a similar job with Isle of Sark Shipping for 16.

Carol Frost, from Manchester, nominated Mrs Le Roux for the Refco-sponsored Welcome of the Year Award.

She has known Mrs Le Roux for some 30 years and said she was usually her first point of call after parking at North Beach.

'Carola is friendly and seems to know so much about your beautiful island,' she said.

'I have learnt so much about Guernsey by just standing at the kiosk and I'm sure that many others have too.

'I always stop for a chat and it's amazing how many people will ask her for directions or where there are nice places to eat.'

She had followed Mrs Le Roux's advice many times and the information she has been given has always been accurate.

'Everybody seems to wave to her as they walk past the kiosk and she must know so many people.'

Mrs Frost used to import Guernsey flowers into the UK and she met Mrs Le Roux through her late husband, Maurice Le Roux, who was the States' chief produce inspector.
