Mr Mahy has worked at the hotel since July 2014, where he is employed as a concierge.

Claire Tamahill said she met Mr Mahy when he was working for another business in St Peter Port and she had no hesitation in putting his name forward for the RefCo-sponsored Welcome of the Year Award.

'Aaron has worked incredibly hard to get where he has and he deserves to be recognised for what he has achieved,' she said.

Mr Mahy always has a smile for people and is always prepared to go way beyond what is required of his role.

'He is someone I am incredibly proud to know and it would be entirely appropriate if the rest of Guernsey had the opportunity to be proud of him too,' said Mrs Tamahill, who attends the hotel for meals, functions and as a resident.

Jeremy Bishop supported the nomination. He said Mr Mahy had a great personality and was ideally suited to the hospitality industry.

'I have known him for many years and he is always happy, cheerful and helpful,' he said.
