Pride of Guernsey - 'Kind, calm and efficient approach'

QUICK diagnosis of a suspected and severe sepsis has led to Lorna Harborow being nominated for Emergency Hero of the Year.

Published

Joan Tostevin nominated her after having to call 999 early in the hours of 20 December, having been woken by her husband who was shaking uncontrollably.

'The hospital team set the treatment up and were waiting in the doorway when the ambulance arrived. Treatment was started immediately and an X-ray showed severe pneumonia with sepsis. The doctor said that if Peter had been left a further two hours, he would have been too late for treatment.'

Peter has now fully recovered and Mrs Tostevin said that without Lorna's 'quick diagnosis and assessment, he would not be here today. Lorna's kind, calm and efficient approach to the situation helped both of us that morning.'
