'The Guernsey Photography Festival has put the island on the global arts map,' said its nominator who put forward the festival for the Moonpig-sponsored Arts Contribution of the Year Award.

The brainchild of photographer Jean-Christophe Godet, who is French-born but lives in Guernsey, debuted in 2010. One of only five such events in the UK, the festival brings in diverse work by photographers from more than 60 countries.

'It gets national and international press coverage and it has fathered the first-ever pan-island arts collaboration between Guernsey and Jersey art colleges,' they said.

'It brings colour and interest to St Peter Port's streets and stimulates people to think about the world we live in, particularly those talented young islanders involved in its community and educational projects.'

'None of it would happen without a dedicated team,' said Jean-Christophe.

'On the committee we have Richard James, Ben Bailey, Martin Purvis, Caroline Carre, Piet Whitehorne, Marie Gautier, Lottie Barnes, Mark Windsor, Sarah Jehan, Aaron Yeandle, Alicja Chrzanowska, Agnieszka Stanska, Mark Parry, Max Babbé and Emilia Trow.'
