Rose Le Feuvre, who set up Bailiwick Tours about 25 years ago, said Mrs Brouard was so welcoming and knowledgeable on everything island-wide, from bus times to local history and just about everything in between.

Mrs Le Feuvre, whose company deals primarily with cruise ship passengers, has proposed Mrs Brouard for the RefCo-sponsored Welcome of the Year Award.

'She makes everyone she meets feel most welcome and happy to be visiting the island, and everyone enjoys her company,' she said.

'She is funny, loud and caring and if your mother was visiting Guernsey, you would want her to be welcomed by Sylvia.'

Mrs Brouard is in such demand from tour groups and cruise ships that she works constantly throughout the season.

'Sylvia is always willing to learn about anything and impart her vast knowledge to others,' said Mrs Le Feuvre.

'She helps the silver- and bronze-accredited guides too and has such a lovely way with people.'

The two women have been working together for years, she said.

'Sylvia phoned me up one day and asked if I had any work for guides,' said Mrs Le Feuvre.

'I asked her to look after the double-decker bus that was running around the island at the time.

'There was no PA and she was constantly running up and down the stairs and we just clicked straight away.'
