Pride of Guernsey: 'made a massive impact on the children he teaches'
A HAUTES CAPELLES Primary teacher whose modern teaching methods 'engage his pupils and foster in them enquiring minds', has been nominated for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year Award.
Peter Byrne may have only joined the school in September 2015, but parent Lisa Smart said he had already 'made a massive impact on the children he teaches'.
'Mr Byrne treats every child as a special individual whose talents are nurtured and developed,' she said.
'He is highly skilled at positively engaging his pupils so that learning is fun and memorable.'
Mrs Smart praised Mr Byrne's use of modern technology, which she said encouraged his pupils to be 'eager to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom'.
She said Mr Byrne's good communication extended to parents, who were up to date on their children's progress in school.
'He has built good relationships with not just his pupils but also their parents, who are always made to feel welcome and are regularly informed of progress,' she said.
And Mrs Smart said this welcoming approach had had a confidence-building effect on her own daughter, who has been taught by Mr Byrne this year.
'Our daughter started the year with little confidence in her own ability and a lack of focus and enthusiasm,' she said.
'Mr Byrne has had a huge impact on her and she is now confident, successful, has made great progress and loves learning.'
