Pride of Guernsey: 'truly goes above and beyond her duty'
A WOMAN who has dedicated her career to nursing and caring for others 'truly goes above and beyond her duty', according to her daughter.
Sue Fleming has been nominated for the Angel of the Year Award, sponsored by Ravenscroft, by her daughter, Lucy.
Working in nursing for more than 30 years, Sue is matron of St John's Residential Home and has been there for four years.
'My mum has dedicated her career to caring for others and caring has become her life,' said Lucy.
'She has worked within the nursing field for over 30 years, having a particular interest in supporting people with mental health difficulties and older adults.
'I feel she has been a true ambassador for mental health and continues to be so in supporting people getting back to work.'
Lucy said her mother was always looking at ways she could give people opportunities and support.
'She truly goes above and beyond her duty and is never too busy to take a call from staff, meet with a relative or a group of her residents.
'I don't think she ever truly lets herself go "off-duty", she has a passion for making sure older adults are treated with respect and dignity and endeavours to ensure they receive the best care in the latter stages of their life.'
Lucy said her mother also created change through example and also supported many charities.
'You could not wish to meet a more inspirational person who is truly dedicated to the needs of others.'
