Little Chapel fundraiser saved after meltdown
A GIANT chocolate egg, which was specially made to raise funds for the Little Chapel restoration appeal was left with a large hole, after being under glass at Le Friquet Garden for five hours, while volunteers nearby sold raffle tickets.
'We were duly set-up in the conservatory, ensuring it was in the shade and in no direct sunlight,' said Jack Honeybill, head of fundraising for the Little Chapel Foundation.
'Problem is, the conservatory gets quite warm, with people coming in and out, and we didn't realise.
'Before we knew where we were, there was a hole.'
The stunning creation had taken chocolatier Ben Le Prevost a whole day to make by hand. It had to be built up slowly in layers, due to its size, and then decorated with dozens of pieces of chocolate. He had then donated the egg to the Little Chapel appeal.
He revealed that when he had heard what had happened he went into the kitchen and screamed in frustration.
'I was annoyed by what happened, but it was an accident,' he said.
'No-one will want a broken egg, so I decided to donate a chocolate bunny.'
An open day is being held at the Little Chapel on Monday and raffle tickets will be on sale until the draw takes place at 11am.
