Largest population increase since 2011
GUERNSEY'S population saw its largest annual increase since 2011, to stand at 63,026 in the year ending 30 June 2016.
The quarterly Population Employment and Earnings Bulletin, published today, also reports that people were earning more in December than at the same time in the previous year, with median earnings recorded at £31,656 – 2.3% higher in nominal terms and 1.1% higher in real terms.
The best paid were in finance, where median earnings were £44,017.
A continuing decline in construction is also evident, where annual total employment has fallen by another 4% – it is the only sector to show constant quarterly declines since 2015.
Form June 2015 to 2016 the number of people living in the island rose by 258, or 0.41%.
The quarterly bulletin provides headline information on the population of Guernsey, as well as Herm, Jethou and Lihou. It does not include Alderney, Sark and Brecqhou.
