Damp Donkey Day stubbornly refuses to give in to rain

'THE worst day imaginable' blighted the Castel Church's Donkey Day yesterday. However, people still turned out to enjoy the activities.

Donkey Day has taken place at Fairfield, next to Castel Church, for the last four years as an annual event to raise funds for the church.

This year, people could enjoy a range of different stalls, from cake and plant sales to stands where visitors could smash plates and score points.

There was also a group of donkeys for people to see, a tractor and a digger for the children to sit on, and a group of DJs from Party On playing music and running different entertainment.

'It is such a terrible day,' said co-organiser Michelle Dorey, who has organised the event alongside Ann Cox for the last few years.

'We have never had the weather this bad, but we still want to try and put on a show for people – just a good old-fashioned Guernsey event.

'Many things had to be cancelled – we couldn't put up the bouncy castles and the dancers who were meant to come might not be able to now – all the stalls are open though.'
