Education say the decision was taken by the school and supported by the committee.

It had been in use only one term a year to reduce operating costs.

‘Although this was a difficult decision for us make it was clear that the school preferred focusing the limited maintenance budget we have on other areas of the Grammar School building which need upgrading,’ said committee president Paul Le Pelley.

‘We were faced with a tough choice; spend anything between £10,000 and £50,000 to make the pool safe, operational and ready for opening for the next term, or focus our resources on other areas of the school and seek to do things differently with regards to swimming.

‘The school was very clear on what they wanted to do and we have supported that.
