Household waste bills set to rise twice next year
HOUSEHOLD waste bills will rise twice next year, with the new user-pays system expected by mid-2018.
A letter to all douzaines outlines progress on work to implement the new strategy, which will see any rubbish left after recycling shipped to Europe, most likely Sweden.
States’ Trading Assets has called the douzaines to a meeting on Wednesday 4 October for a presentation that will allow them to go out to tender for new collection contracts.
Ahead of the new system coming in, the gate fee at Mont Cuet will rise by 5% – pushing household bills up on average by 40p per month.
‘In recent years, the Waste Disposal Authority has applied above-inflation increases to the gate fee for disposing of waste at Mont Cuet,’ says the letter from States’ Trading Assets deputy managing director Richard Evans.
