No work on wall at L’Ancresse until 2019 ‘at earliest’

WORK to demolish part of the L’Ancresse wall and install two protective rock groynes will now not take place until 2019, Environment & Infrastructure has said.

It was due to start at the beginning of 2018.

The announcement came as questions were raised as to why rock armour along two panels of the wall had not yet been installed, despite the committee previously committing to do it in the autumn of this year.

E&I said the rock armour will not be installed until early January and the knock-on effect meant the full work would not take place until 2019 ‘at the earliest’.

E&I president Barry Brehaut blamed the delay on an unsuccessful sursis – the motion to delay the debate in September.

‘The knock-on effect of debating the solution was that work on delivering the solution was halted,’ he said.

‘This meant that there was no longer the possibility of undertaking the work in 2018, and therefore work will only commence in 2019 at the earliest.

‘This, as has always been the case, is subject to a full environmental impact assessment and planning application.’

However, the sursis, led by Deputy Neil Inder, included a provision for the rock armour work to go ahead even if it had been successful.
