A spokesman for the lottery said it would consider the views of islanders.

‘The objective of the Christmas Lottery is to raise money for good causes,’ he said.

‘The joint island lottery operations team, meets regularly with the strategic partner contracted to design the Christmas Lottery, including the prize structure, and they review the previous results and new trends in order to establish the optimum prize structure.

‘The capping of the first prize has been considered before and will be considered again as we start to think about the 2018 Christmas Lottery.’
