Pumping out at Perelle

STORMY conditions continued to wreak havoc on Guernsey’s west coast yesterday morning.

Seaweed, rocks and seawater made large parts of the west impassable as coastal roads were closed.

Gusts of 40 miles per hour threw large amounts of debris clean over the roads and into residents’ gardens from Cobo all the way down to Rocquaine.

Alison and Peter Harris, who live in Perelle, were counting their blessings yesterday morning.

‘We are considerably luckier than a lot of other people,’ said Mrs Harris.

‘We’ve only got the garden to contend with – it flooded yesterday – we’re lucky our house is quite high up so there isn’t any flooding inside.’
