The Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service were called by the owner of the car at around noon to the standalone garages used by residents of Rozel Road.

Once the garage door had been prised open, it took four firefighters using breathing apparatus 15 minutes to extinguish the flames with the use of one hose reel and one main jet.

Crew commander Andy Gibson attended along with eight other operational officers and one duty officer.

‘The owner of the car had been driving it for around half an hour before parking it in the garage,’ said Mr Gibson.

‘The garage and car has been damaged heavily with considerable damage to the two garages either side.'
