Wing mirrors were broken off cars and in one case a vehicle windscreen was smashed and another window broken.

Police believe the incidents are connected and are appealing for information.

The perpetrators are thought to have travelled from Rousse Kiosk, along Route Carre, past Oatlands down Les Gigands into Baubigny and then along Saltpans Road into Lowlands Road. They are keen to speak to a large group of young people who were seen in the area at the time.

Jean Ogier, 75, who lives in the Saltpans and who had the wing mirror broken on her car, said she heard a bang at about 1.40am.

‘I looked out of the window and saw a group walking towards the direction of Lowlands Road,’ she said. ‘There were probably 10 of them – youths but not kids. There was no way that I was going out at that time of the morning.’

Ian Musson, who lives in Lowlands Road, had the wing mirror broken from his car on what was his 70th birthday.

‘I’ve lived here for about 15 years and this is the first time that this sort of thing has happened,’ he said.

‘It’s very frustrating and these sort of things are done out of sheer spite. What do people get out of it?’

Some 20 panes of glass were broken in the roadside section of the greenhouse at Fletcher’s Freesias in Route Carre, St Sampson’s, and a vehicle was damaged.

Owner Mark Fletcher said it was the first time such a thing had happened for several years.

‘We’ll put the greenhouse right in-house and it will probably take a day to clear up and fix,’ he said.

‘It won’t be so easy for all the car owners who will have to start filling in forms to claim off their insurance.’

Police would be keen to speak to anybody who can provide any information in relation to the damage caused in any of these areas or if anyone has seen groups of individuals in the above mentioned places.

They are advising people in these areas to check their vehicles or properties for any fresh damage and if anybody has any private CCTV they would be willing to check, or have an officer check, that would be appreciated.
