A group of nurses went to Grand Havre on Sunday morning to clean up marine debris and other plastic litter in the area.

Veterinary nurse Sophie Veron, from Isabelle Vets, organised the beach clean after seeking advice on local bays that were most affected.

‘I got in touch with Plastic Free Guernsey about which beaches have the most rubbish brought in from the sea and they said a lot comes in here with the current,’ she said.

Miss Veron said the idea of a beach clean went hand-in-hand with their line of work.

‘Our job isn’t just cats and dogs.

‘We have marine wildlife as well and it is so important that we look after the natural environment,’ she said.

One of the other draws of Grand Havre was that they could all take their dogs along with them, because the bay has no summer restrictions.

‘The plan is to go all the way round from here to Rousse and then back again.’

Miss Veron advertised the event and sent a message out to all the different veterinary practices on the island.
