The Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club show at Saumarez Park attracted hundreds of vehicles and even more people, who came to see cars ranging from classic to racing vehicles and super cars.

Phil Winter, 67, was exhibiting a 1924 Morris Cowley that he had purchased in March from Chelmsford.

‘She is great fun, she isn’t perfect but it is all working,’ he said of the 94-year-old vehicle, which would have cost £163 back in the 1920’s.

‘She is quite easy to drive, she bounces around quite a lot but she’s great.

‘However, there are a few quirks that take getting used to.

‘To reverse you have to push the gear forwards.’

David Malledent, from the Guernsey Military Vehicle Group, said the event was different to many others that the group was involved with.

‘Here we can promote the group and can display stuff other than just the vehicles – we can show a bit more of the human side of military life,’ he said.

‘A lot of the lads dress up in uniform and people recognise us, so they can ask us questions rather than just looking at the vehicles.’

A lot of care and investment goes into maintaining and rebuilding the vehicles, he said

‘In the old days they were looked at as a poor man’s classic car, but not anymore.’

Simon and Kate Marshall, with their children Felix, 5, and Ida, 3, were one of the families looking around the many displays.

‘It’s something we come to every year,’ said Mr Marshall.

‘I am part of the Land Rover club and I have brought mine along. It’s nice to go around and have a look at all the other cars.’
