The 3pm closure was necessary to get the aircraft back to the apron safely. The two grass runways remained open.
There were no injuries to the people on board the aircraft and the runway reopened at 3.45pm.
A spokesman said the airport would remain open late if required to clear any backlog of passenger flights ahead of Alderney Week.
Alderney Airport apologised for any inconvenience caused by the incident.
