Gangplank up for pirate ship repairs
AFTER five years of children clambering over the dizzy heights of the Saumarez Park pirate ship’s crow’s nest, some essential repair work is having to take place.

The refurbished playground reopened in 2015, with a 6m high and 29m long pirate ship as its centrepiece.
Saumarez Park Playground committee member Marco Tersigni said the site was checked weekly for wear and tear.
‘We are putting in new nets as the current ones are quite worn,’ he said.
‘We have to make sure everything is top-notch, and they do get heavy use.’
Young people clamber up through the net tunnels to reach the top of the crow’s nest.
Mr Tersigni said this was the first time they had needed to replace the nets since the site reopened.
The structure is closed until the work is completed.
If the weather is good, the ship might reopen for the weekend.
If not, it may not reopen until next week.
The rest of the playground is not affected by the work and is open as usual.
