Pauline wants to thank man who found her ring
REUNITED with a wedding ring she thought she had lost, an 80-year-old wants to personally thank the man who handed it in to the police.
Pauline Taylor had noticed that her wedding ring was getting a bit loose on her finger, but always tried to ensure she wore another ring in front of it to stop it sliding off.
‘One day I must have forgotten and I noticed that I didn’t have it,’ she said.
‘I searched everywhere at home for it, in the garden, the greenhouse, all the cupboards again and again but never had any luck.’
The ring was from her marriage to her late husband, who died two years ago.
‘It means ever such a lot to me and I was just about to give up searching when my daughter encouraged me to phone the police,’ she said.
‘I thought there’s no way someone would have found it, but a week later they called to say it had been found by a man at Footes Lane and handed in.’
Although the police kept the confidentiality of the man, Mrs Taylor hoped sharing her story with the Guernsey Press would encourage the gentleman to get in touch with her so she can thank him personally. ‘I am so grateful for his honesty in handing it in and taking the trouble to go all the way to the Police Station with it,’ she said.
‘I wasn’t going to bother ringing the police because I thought it was a lost cause, but now I’ve got it back I would really encourage everyone to hand in the things they find and always check with the police if you have lost something.’
If you are the gentleman who found the ring at Footes Lane and handed it in to the police, Mrs Taylor has asked that you call her on 268399 so she can express her gratitude.
