Public given opportunity to see updated plans for Little Chapel
ISLANDERS have a chance to see the updated Little Chapel plans today.
A drop-in is being held at St Andrew’s douzaine room between 9am and noon, with a member of the TLC Foundation on hand to answer questions.
The original plans were submitted in November, but there were concerns raised over the installation of a lychgate, which might be used as a charging barrier, and that the overall scheme was too large for the small site.
Reassurances have now been given that there are no plans to introduce any charges at present and there have also been adaptations to ensure the site is as easy as possible for people with disabilities to access.
Renovation co-ordinator Norman Hare said they were hopeful the new plans would be passed.
‘The feedback so far has been absolutely fantastic,’ he said.
‘The general public have been very supportive.’
A path running parallel to the existing road will be wide enough to allow people in wheelchairs to get to the chapel.
A check of the width of the chapel has shown that a wheelchair user can go inside, turn around and come back out safely, meaning they will be able to see the site close-up.
Currently it is quite difficult for people with limited mobility to access the site due to the number of steps and narrow, winding paths.
Fundraising for the work is taking place and the project will not disrupt the summer season.
Also included in the plans are organised parking spaces by the entrance to the site and toilets, as well as a covered area, which would be used as an interpretation centre.
The revised plans are also available to view at Sir Charles Frossard House between 9am and 5pm on weekdays.
The consultation ends on 16 March.
