GUERNSEY’S night life lit up again this weekend after a three-month break as islanders celebrated the move to Phase 5 of the exit from lockdown.

Cristovao Santos, manager and co-owner of Amigos, said staff were buzzing to get back behind the bar.

‘Saturday night was amazing,’ he said.

‘There was a queue outside from about 9.25pm non-stop until closing time, it was nuts.’

He said all the bars were packed, the drinks were flowing and the streets were full of islanders in good spirits.

‘It was like street poetry.’

Amigos made the decision to reduce slightly the number of people in the bar to give everyone a little bit more space and peace of mind that they were not too on top of each other.

‘We had such a range of people in the bar, from regulars to older people out for a couple of cocktails, to people playing beer pong and people dancing literally all night,’ he said.

Ahead of Saturday night, staff tidied up the bar with some finishing touches so customers walked into a fresh environment.

Mr Santos hoped islanders would maintain their enthusiasm for partying and continue to support the nightlife industry.

‘It really is so much fun, there are some fantastic venues on the island so make the most of what you’ve missed out on for the last three months and let’s keep the fiesta going.

‘But remember to be patient and polite to bar staff and be aware of your tolerance – it might have dropped a bit during lockdown.’

Fusion owner Alex Lock said the atmosphere was amazing on Saturday night.

‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen Town so busy, it was absolute carnage – but great fun.’

He said there was very little trouble throughout the night and the atmosphere in the club was really great.

‘Our capacity is normally 460 but we dropped it to 400 this weekend, partly to give people a bit more space but also to take some of the pressure off the bar staff.’

Crowds were queuing up to get into Fusion from about 10pm right up until 1.45am.
