Thousands of show-goers stepped back 70 years to appreciate traditional farming, music and more at the original 1948 West Show site.

History themed the event which offered plenty of opportunity for education and enjoyment.

Organising committee chairman Ron Le Cras said: ‘It’s gone very well indeed, we are so pleased with the turnout.

‘The whole of our show fields were full [on Saturday], so we’re talking in the thousands. Everyone has said they thoroughly enjoyed it.’

Work is year-round to arrange the festivities, with vice-chairs Jim Jamouneau, Rodney Dyke, secretary April Wallow and treasurer Andrew Innes, plus dozens of volunteers.

‘It’s been really busy these past three months.

‘Originally we planned for July, but that would have been impossible. This weekend has ended up being very successful, and we may just be the only two-day show happening in the world.’

Credit was given to the ‘fantastic venue’.

‘Our thanks go to the De Lisle family and tenant farmer Dave Cowley. It’s amazing to have the Hanois lighthouse and coast in view.’

Various sponsors support the event, the proceeds of which go to two charities of choice.

‘Funds are donated to two deserving local charities and we won’t give to the same one twice. Last year we donated to Men’s Shed and Grow Ltd.’

Fields were ploughed and harrowed using decades-old machinery, a testament to their good quality.

‘All were made between the ‘40s and ‘60s, but they still work perfectly.

‘We try to bring back memories of it all.’
