Back on the treadmill as Beau Sejour reopens
ISLANDERS were queuing up to get back into Beau Sejour when it opened as the majority of restrictions were lifted.
During stage two the gym and pool were open, but there were specific requirements, such as booking ahead and the changing rooms being closed.
All that has now fallen away.
Head of recreational services Sam Herridge said on Monday they had 120 people coming in for a swim and 300 using the gym.
‘It is almost back to normal,’ she said.
‘I think over the next few weeks it will get busier and busier.’
Some staff are still working from home and those that are at the centre are social distancing, where possible.
There is also perspex screens at the counters and hand sanitiser available around the centre.
The cafe is being restocked and is set to reopen today.
The swim school is set to restart after Easter and Mrs Herridge said she expected that to see a big boost in numbers at the centre.
The theatre can also reopen. However, for any gathering of more than 100 people there would need to be a special risk assessment and a way to register everyone involved.
This Friday’s press conference is set to be held there – the last two months of press conferences have been held virtually on Microsoft Teams.
The reopening date of the cinema is being reviewed.
The cinema usually shows children’s film or films that have finished their general release.
However, few films have been released in the last 12 months, as studios have decided to hold back films until more cinemas can open.
Beau Sejour is currently home to Community Vaccine Centre, which is based in the Sir John Loveridge Hall.
The car park has been segregated for Beau Sejour and CVC visitors, and Mrs Herridge said there had not been any problems with this. Some of the squash courts are also being used by the CVC, but there were still three available for public use.
During the lockdown, Beau Sejour memberships have been frozen. People with annual memberships will get two months added on the end of their year.
