But while St Andrew’s is asking everyone who attends to wear a mask, the rest of the parishes are reported to be relying on good ventilation, social distancing and, said Douzaine Council chairman Mick Fooks, ‘common sense’.
Dean of St Andrew’s Douzaine Godfray Guilbert said it was the meeting’s venue that decided members on their course of action. ‘The room we normally meet in at the community centre at the old St Andrew’s School is quite small. We felt that it was only reasonable to ask people to wear masks,’ he said.
As well as being small, the room is not easy to ventilate. ‘A lot of other parishes have large rooms available,’ said Mr Guilbert.
In common with the majority of parishes, there is no contested election for roles this year and Mr Guilbert did not expect the meeting to attract a lot of people.
Mr Fooks said that he believed all the parishes had sought feedback on what to do at their meetings.
‘I think it will be down to the individual parishes to take into account the guidelines,’ he said. ‘Each will look at their facilities and common sense must prevail, as it were.’
He also hoped people would take a lateral flow test before attending any of the meetings.
Mr Fooks is on the Castel douzaine and said that masks would be made available for attendees at its meeting.
