All event organisers had followed safety guidelines, and no incidents or concerns were reported.

Jim Cathcart, communications officer for St John Ambulance, said volunteers were at the La Houguette School bonfire party on Friday. He said everything ran smoothly and without incident.

One of the biggest events was at Northfield.

The bonfire was lit at 7pm, the bar was open, and food served with fireworks lighting up the sky at 7:15.

Colin Kimber, president of the Northerners Athletic Club, said it had been organising the event for many years.

‘There have been a lot of good reports from people who were there,’ he said.

‘It’s not about the money for us. It’s a great event for the Guernsey community. If we can get 1,000 people from the north here for a good time, then it’s all worthwhile.’

Mr Kimber said the bonfire seems to draw more and more people in every year, and he hopes the event will continue well into the future.
