Les Beaucamps first to take the plunge in Swimarathon
THE Swimarathon’s spirit spread to local secondary schools, and Les Beaucamps High School was the first to take the plunge.
More than 20 students volunteered themselves to take part in the school Swimarathon, and competed against each other in teams to reach the most lengths.
‘Where schools have a pool we can supply the Swimarathon bits as if they were at the main event and hold it as an exclusive session,’ said Swimarathon committee chairman John Stuart.
‘Swimarathons in school are a lot of fun and they all like to compete against each other.’
With music blasting around the poolside and short dance breaks in between lengths, the swimmers embraced their time out of lessons for the cause.
Jamie Curtis, 11, has taken part in the Swimarathon for the past four years or so.
‘It’s something I’ve done for a while so I wanted to get involved at my school,’ he said.
‘It can be tiring but it’s a good fun overall.’
Evie Le Prevost, 14, has also taken part in the Swimarathon before, but it was her first time taking part with the school.
She said that she likes to get involved in events as much as possible, and while it can get tiring, the swim is fun.
‘I decided to take part because I really enjoy swimming and the Swimarathon is lots of fun,’ said Indi Warren, 11.
‘I swim outside of school and I’m hoping to swim 26 lengths during our Swimarathon hour.’
Roy Bisson has been involved with hosting the Swimarathon for a number of years, and was at the school to start the event.
St Sampson’s High School and Le Murier School will be taking on the challenge together today.
