The blockwork went up in the corner of the car park in the autumn and on Saturday members of the douzaine were helping with some of the roof structure.

A roofer is expected on site shortly, with the entire structure ready to use in the spring.

Senior constable Jeff Wilkes-Green said currently some items were stored in the parish hall and the rest in rented storage in Les Vaurioufs.

That includes items like its Christmas lights, a low-level stage and the store fronts used for the Christmas market.

But from later this year all these items will be kept in the new store. Mr Wilkes-Green said the douzaine had been planning the structure for a few years.

‘This will make it more user friendly,’ he said.

‘It will be a huge benefit to the parish. It is encouraging to see it going up.’

The new building will save on storage rental costs, but also on fuel as they will not need to drive to their storage. It will also be more convenient.

Solar panels will be going on the roof, which will power the lights and hand dryers in the neighbouring parish toilets. Any excess will go to the parish hall.

The structure has been funded using parish reserves.

It stands in a corner of the car park where historically the

parish handyman’s truck has been parked.

Mr Wilkes-Green said that one parking space had been lost by erecting the new building.
