‘Its great for all sorts of parties, anniversary parties, birthday parties, children’s events – the hall is high enough that we can take a bouncy castle inside,’ said douzenier Jenny Blackburn.

‘There is also a fantastic parquet flooring that is wonderful for dancing.

‘It would also make a great space for classes such as yoga. We have some regular bookings but definitely have the capacity do more.’

She said that many people were put off booking the hall because they believed Torteval was too far away.

‘But we are just off the main road and only a one-minute walk from a well-served bus stop,’ she said.

‘We are more accessible than people think, it’s a lovely hall with a lovely feel and we would love to see it used more.’

Buses that pass the hall include the N3 night bus that runs after midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

The light and airy hall has just been repainted and Miss Blackburn said that it cost just £35 to hire for a morning, afternoon or evening session.

‘It has a wonderful outlook on to the fields, and you often get cows looking in through the windows,’ she added.

The hall, which is 12.5 metres long by nine metres wide, has capacity for 80 people and an alcohol licence can be granted by the douzaine for private parties.

It was opened in 1970 by Lady Mills, the wife of the then-Lt Governor.

Miss Blackburn pointed out some other features including parking for at least 25 cars, disabled access, a working kitchen and WiFi.
