Air source heat pumps replaced at Les Beaucamps

AIR SOURCE heat pumps have been in the news recently as homeowners are encouraged to consider the technology as a green way of heating their homes.

But large-scale versions of these have been in use at Les Beaucamps High since it was built and this year it was time for some to be replaced.

The pumps are situated in two areas of the school, and one set is responsible for heating the swimming pool and adjacent rooms. It was these that had reached the end of their working life and RefCo undertook the replacement work.

There was also a big replacement job done in another room by the pool, this one housing the sand filter tanks that keep the water clean.

Mr Willcocks said that for a public pool these tanks are likely to have a five- to seven-year lifespan.

But with the school pool not used as much, the States changes the filters every 10 years.

It is a big project and requires specialists from the UK, so the opportunity was being taken this year to renew the sand filters in all the big school pools, which as well as Beaucamps involved Forest, Le Rondin, the Baubigny schools, Les Voies and Hautes Capelles.

Smaller school pools are maintained by local contractors.
