Rt Hon Greg Hands MP was visiting the island for the first time.

It follows longstanding engagement between States officials and the UK Department for Business and Trade.

He visited Specsavers and the Envoy House headquarters of Guernsey Post, as well as meeting representatives of the financial and professional services industry.

Key figures from Guernsey Finance and the Guernsey Financial Services Commission were also introduced to the minister.

He also met with the Policy & Resources, Economic Development and Home Affairs Committees, where they discussed island’s current priorities, economic and international trade matters, and financial services and investment.

‘It was a real pleasure to offer Minister Hands a very warm welcome to Guernsey for his first official visit to the island,’ said Policy & Resources president Lyndon Trott.

‘The visit provided an opportunity to discuss how our financial services industry contributes significantly to the UK economy as well as to trading partners around the world.

‘We discussed in detail the data that has been published by Guernsey Finance following the publication of the Frontier Economics Report last month “The Value of Guernsey Finance to the UK”.’

Deputy Trott said he looked forward to continuing to engage with Mr Hands, to ensure that Guernsey’s interests were included in trade agreements the UK is negotiating around the world.
