It was confirmed earlier this month the company was in trouble and half it stores would close. But the closures were only confirmed yesterday.

Team leader Charlie Jennings said they did not even know if the shop would open next week.

‘It’s never a good position for anybody, but we’ve got to keep a positive outlook and hopefully bounce back,’ he said.

Sales consultant Sophie De La Mare said that all the staff were upset at the news.

‘I feel bad for all of our loyal customers, we love the shop and don’t want it to close. We’ll be open on Saturday but we need to sell as much stock as possible,’ she said.

An announcement on 20 February that administrators wanted to retain more than half of its store portfolio still meant that 75 stores would close over the next month, with Guernsey now confirmed as being one of them.

It was stated that this move would allow the business to focus on its online sales channels which should in turn allow the return to financial stability.

Customer Cassidy Jones was ‘gutted’ to hear that the store was closing.

‘These products seem to be the only ones that work,’ she said.

‘I also like that they offer a refillable range.’

It was expected that 489 staff across The Body Shop in the UK would be affected by the phased store closures over the next four to six weeks.

The changes will only impact The Body Shop business in the UK.

It will not affect business in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America or Asia.
