Battle of Britain flight pulled from Guernsey Air Display
THE Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will not be taking part in next week’s Guernsey’s Air Display.
Last month Squadron leader Mark Long was killed on impact when his Spitfire crashed into a Lincolnshire field.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, with investigations ongoing.
Out of concern for safety, the BBMF has paused flights, and so will miss out on next week's local display.
Instead they have been replaced with the Navy Wings Fairey Swordfish Mk1 W5856, which will fly in the local display as well as attending the Meet the Pilots event the day before.
The replacement aircraft is the oldest surviving airworthy Fairey Swordfish, which entered into service in 1936 and sank more tonnage than any other allied plane during the Second World War.
The current line up for next Thursday’s display now includes the Hawker Hurricane MK1, Navy Wings Harvard, Fairey Swordfish, Mustang X-Ray PC-21 Team, Poseidon MRA1, RAF Red Arrows, Rich Goodwin’s Jet Pitts, Team Raven and the Titans.
The display will take place between 11am and 1.15pm, with the running order being confirmed shortly.
